Highland Lake Golf Club, is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Flat Rock, North Carolina.
Highland Lake Golf Club first opened for play in 1972.
The course has excellent Bent grass greens and Tiff Sport Bermuda fairways and tees. With elevated greens, water hazards, and multiple tees, this challenging course offers something for all levels of golfers. The course was built on flat terrain and is easy to walk featuring (2 par 5s, 4 par 4s, and 3 par 3s).
Excellent learning facilities are also available featuring putting green, chipping green, practice bunkers, driving range and professional golf instruction.
The course plays to a 9-hole par of 35 and a maximum 9-hole distance of 2615 yards.
The course closed September 30, 2013.
The city purchased the 66-acre course in 2013 for a reported price of $1.15 million. The land will be repurposed as a city park.
The village might development the park in phases that would include walking trails, a playground, picnic areas and other improvements at a cost of about $1.6 million.
Village Council members said they thought the village could buy the land and improve it without raising taxes. Flat Rock has a $4.487 million fund balance, which grows by about $140,000 a year. The town could use the fund balance to pay for park development, operations, and maintenance through 2019 and still have a balance of $3 million.
The village has also submitted an application for a state Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant of $475,000.
